All 24, explained.

  1. 1. The Gullgruven roundabout: 5 arms and the E39 off-ramp

    Åsamyrane × Liamyrane × E39

    Why to watch out here

A two-lane roundabout 200 m after the start: traffic enters from the E39 off-ramp, Liamyrane from the south, Åsamyrane from both sides and Nyborg bru towards IKEA. Almost every route passes here twice, at the start and at the end ("Følg skilting KONTROLLSTASJONEN"). Forum: "many people take the wrong lane in the roundabouts" and "in Åsane most routes go through the roundabouts along the motorway".

    What to do

Choose your lane before you enter: right/straight on means right lane, further round means left lane. Look left at those already in the roundabout and at the E39 off-ramp, where cars arrive fast. Right indicator only before your own exit. Not ready? Do an extra lap, that's not a mistake.

  2. 2. Bus lane on the right

    Liamyrane (between the two roundabouts)

    Why to watch out here

Two short stretches with a bus lane on the right (signs 508.2), each right after a roundabout, so it's easy to exit the roundabout into the right lane and carry on in it. The routes return to the station exactly here ("Ta til VENSTRE i rundkjøringen og rett fram i neste rundkjøring, følg skilt mot FLAKTVEIT").

    What to do

When exiting the roundabouts onto Liamyrane northbound, keep to the left lane. The right one is bus/taxi only until sign 510 "Slutt på kollektivfelt". Before the Gullgruven roundabout the lane is open to everyone again, so no sudden moves.

  3. 3. End of the main road: priority to the right around the headland

    Eidsvågneset (Eidsvågveien, 40)

    Why to watch out here

Three sources single out Eidsvågneset: "a hard road, easy to end up there on the test" (BA 2020), "priority to the right in places" (Kvinneguiden 2020), "smale gater" (narrow streets, Roalds). According to NVDB the forkjørsveg ends at 60.4400, 5.2845, after which it's a narrow 40 road with hills, cars parked along the kerb and unsigned streets on the right (Furubotn, Orreveien, Lyngveien, Strandbakken).

    What to do

When you see sign 208 "Slutt på forkjørsveg", every street on the right from there on has equal priority: slow down and look right. Keep to 40, no more; the oncoming route 5 buses pass very close. Meeting a bus: pull in at the kerb in good time.

  4. 4. Right lane for buses only before the tunnel

Munkebotntunnelen (E39 on-ramp from Sandviken towards Åsane)

    Why to watch out here

A candidate on Kvinneguiden (2020) failed their first attempt exactly here: on the way out of town towards Åsane they saw the sign too late, the car nearly ended up in the bus lane, and from then on the mistakes piled up one after another. According to NVDB: 508.2 kollektivfelt on the on-ramp, an ATK speed camera, 60 → 70, and at the end of the tunnel a give-way and a merge with the traffic from Fløyfjellstunnelen.

    What to do

On the arm towards the tunnel take the left lane straight away; the right one is for buses. In the tunnel 70, lights on. At the exit, sign 536 "påkjøring i eget felt" and 202: you're merging into the E39, so mirror, shoulder check, match your speed to the traffic from Fløyfjellstunnelen. As for the ATK camera, just keep to the limit.

  5. 5. The Vågsbotn roundabout: E16 × E39 under the flyover

    Vågsbotn (60 km/h, 2 lanes)

    Why to watch out here

The biggest junction in Åsane: about 40,000 cars a day, a 60 km/h roundabout with two lanes, and part of the traffic goes over the top on a 300 m flyover and joins the E39 bypassing the roundabout. Routes: "Følg skilt mot BERGEN i rundkjøring i Vogsbotn", "Følg skilt mot FLAKTVEIT i rundkjøringen i Vogsbotn", "Følg skilt mot OSLO inn på Arnavegen". A candidate in 2016: "etter vi var forbi Vågsbotn og gjennom tunnelen innså jeg at vi var på vei bort fra Bergen" (after Vågsbotn and the tunnel I realised we were heading away from Bergen).

    What to do

Read the green signs before the roundabout: "Bergen" and "Flaktveit" are different exits. Lane by the arrows, enter only into a gap, don't change lane inside without mirror and shoulder check. On the exit towards Oslo (E16) it's 70–80 and an immediate climb; towards Knarvik 60 and a tunnel.

  6. 6. A left turn off the E16 across oncoming traffic

    Arnavegen × Blindheimsvegen (Blindheim kryss)

    Why to watch out here

A left turn off the two-lane E16 at 70 km/h: you wait for a gap in the oncoming traffic while cars close in from behind at 70, and Blindheimsvegen itself starts with a "road narrows" sign and 50. Then comes the reversing task at the Blindheimsvegen × Hetlebakkvegen junction. According to NVDB the junction has video surveillance and is a forkjørsveg.

    What to do

Indicate 100–150 m ahead, slow down smoothly, move up to the centre line and wait for a gap without blocking the oncoming lane. If a queue builds up behind you, don't panic, they have to wait. After the turn it's 50 at once, and the road narrows.

  7. 7. Start: the "SKOLE" car park and the exit onto Heiane

    Bergen trafikkstasjon

    Why to watch out here

The first minutes of the test: the car park is tight, Heiane is a 30 zone with houses and shops, and pedestrians walk to Jula and Harley-Davidson. Rolling out onto Heiane without giving way to a car or a pedestrian, or going above 30, is a mistake before the route has even begun. At the end you have to reverse into one of those same spaces.

    What to do

Before you start, trace the way out with your eyes: left along the building, left, then right onto Heiane. At the exit stop at the edge, look left-right-left and at the pavement. Keep to 30 on Heiane. At the end, reverse into a SKOLE space: slowly, with mirrors and a turn of the head.

  8. 8. The IKEA roundabout: lanes by the arrows

    Åsamyrane × Nyborg bru × E39 (south)

    Why to watch out here

Two roundabouts 150 m apart. From the south (from Åsane senter) the entry is marked "left/straight | right", from the bridge there are two lanes. The off-ramp from the E39 northbound also arrives here. Mistakes: wrong lane on the approach, cutting across your neighbour when exiting onto the E39, signalling at the wrong moment.

    What to do

On Nyborg bru take your lane straight away: "Sentrum/E39" means right, right lane; "Salhus/Åsane senter" means straight on. Enter when the left is clear, keep your lane until your exit, mirror and shoulder check before exiting.

  9. 9. Joining the E39 towards the centre: 3 lanes merge

Nyborg (on-ramp from the IKEA roundabout)

    Why to watch out here

A short ramp out of the roundabout: 50 → 80 in a couple of hundred metres, and the E39 has three lanes here, the right one merging ("merge_to_left"). Another on-ramp joins near Åsane senter. An old forum tip: after the motorway one candidate "didn't manage to adjust from motorway speed to the 50 zone", and the reverse happens on the on-ramp, people dawdle.

    What to do

Accelerate on the lane to the speed of the traffic (80), find your gap with mirror and shoulder check, merge before the lane ends. Then keep to the right ordinary lane; the left one is for overtaking. Before Åsane senter watch the boards and signs: the limit drops to 60–50 at Tertnes/Eidsvåg.

  10. 10. Priority to the right by the police station

    Litleåsvegen × Liamyrane (Nyborg)

    Why to watch out here

A junction without priority signs; according to NVDB there's only 40 and "fartshump" here. A candidate from Åsane (2017) warns: "the junction by the police station has the ordinary rules (priority to the right), but there's so much traffic it can get chaotic". Routes turn left here onto Liamyrane.

    What to do

Drop to 30–40 before the junction and look right: whoever is on the right goes first. When turning left, also give way to oncoming traffic. Don't wait for an "invitation": if the right is clear, go.

  11. 11. Traffic lights and a school near the station

    Åsamyrane × Flaktveitvegen (Kyrkjekrinsen skole)

    Why to watch out here

The only traffic lights near the station: the left lane is left-turn only, there are signalised zebra crossings on every arm, and Kyrkjekrinsen skole and a bus stop are 100 m away. In the afternoon after school, children cross here; the routes pass through at the end ("lyskryss mot Flaktveit", "Følg skilting KONTROLLSTASJONEN").

    What to do

Choose your lane by the arrows in good time. Turning left on green: give way to oncoming traffic and to pedestrians on the crossing you're turning into. Near the school keep below 50 and watch the pavements, even on green.

  12. 12. Third roundabout towards Salhus: exit into a 60 zone

    Åsamyrane × Salhusvegen

    Why to watch out here

A two-lane approach with arrows "left/straight | straight/right". The examiner says "follow the signs for Salhus", through three roundabouts in a row (Gullgruven, IKEA, this one). The exit onto Salhusvegen is immediately 60 and a divided road; candidates either stay at 50 or fail to pick a lane before the roundabout.

    What to do

"Salhus": right lane, first exit to the right, indicator before entering. After the exit look at the sign: 60 means accelerate to 60, don't crawl. "Åsane senter": either lane straight on, right indicator after the first exit.

  13. 13. The Åsane senter roundabout: 30 zone and zebra crossings

Åsamyrane × Myrdalsvegen × Åsane senter

    Why to watch out here

From 50 on Åsamyrane straight into 30 on the exits towards Åsane senter (sign 362.30 + a speed bump 20 m from the roundabout). A shopping centre: lots of pedestrians and zebra crossings, cars pulling out of car parks. Forum 2017: "lots of crossings, people take the wrong lane in the roundabouts". Routes: "Kjør gjennom Åsane senter og følg skilt mot KNARVIK".

    What to do

In the roundabout, lane by the arrows; on the exit towards the centre drop to 30 at once. At every zebra crossing look at the pavement; you don't have to give way to cars leaving the car parks, but be ready for them not to give way to you.

  14. 14. Off-ramp from the E39 to Åsane senter: the right lane is a bus lane

    Hesthaugvegen × E39

    Why to watch out here

The motorway off-ramp widens to two lanes, but the right one is for buses and taxis only (508.2), and before the roundabout the markings say "left/straight | right". Candidates move into the right lane "to turn right" while it's still the bus stretch, or enter the roundabout at off-ramp speed.

    What to do

On the ramp stay in the left lane until sign 510 "Slutt på kollektivfelt", then follow the arrows: "Åsane senter/Hesthaugvegen" means right. Brake on the ramp, enter the roundabout at 20–30 and give way to those inside. The second roundabout is 200 m later.

  15. 15. The Tertnes roundabout and a short on-ramp to the E39

    Tertneskrysset (Åsamyrane × Tertnesveien × E39)

    Why to watch out here

A roundabout right under the motorway: an entry from the E39 (50) and three county roads. The exit onto the E39 towards the centre is a single-lane on-ramp onto an 80 road with a short merge. The Sandviken route comes here twice: "Følg skilting TERTNES" and back "Følg skilting E39/E16".

    What to do

Choose your lane before the roundabout: "Tertnes" means right; "Eidsvåg/Ervikveien" means straight on; "E39 Bergen" means follow the signs. On the E39 on-ramp accelerate at once and merge before the lane ends; after Tertnes the motorway is 80, and before Eidsvåg there are more ramps.

  16. 16. The residential streets of Tertnes

    Tertnesveien × Myrarinden / Åstveitskogen

    Why to watch out here

After the 50 road: narrow streets without priority signs, on hills. A candidate in BA (2020): the route "Eidsvågneset → Sandviken → Tertnes", "narrow roads and roads with lots of priority to the right". This is where they set the turning-round and reversing tasks.

    What to do

In the residential area it's 30 km/h in practice, even without a sign. At every unsigned junction look right and be ready to stop. By the school Tertnes vgs there are pedestrians and buses, especially 14–16.

  17. 17. The "Eidsvåg" off-ramp and the left turn at the end

    E39 × Ervikveien (Eidsvåg)

    Why to watch out here

The off-ramp from an 80 road runs into a main road with a give-way sign, immediately followed by "end of motorway" and 50. A left turn across oncoming traffic towards Eidsvåg; the route says "ta til VENSTRE på enden av avkjøringsfeltet". Mistakes: not slowing down on the ramp, stopping in the wrong lane, pulling out in front of a car from the left.

    What to do

Brake while still on the ramp. Stop at the line, look left-right-left; turning left, you wait for a gap in both directions. Then 50, and after 300 m right into Vollane (30) or straight on into Eidsvåg.

  18. 18. A 30 zone by a school with speed bumps

    Helleveien (Hellen skole, Ytre Sandviken)

    Why to watch out here

The Sandviken route: "Følg skilting SENTRUM (gi tilsigelse når dere har passert Hellen Skole i 30-grensen)". After 40–50 along Byfjorden, a short 250 m 30 zone with speed bumps and exits from the school yard. The school has asked the municipality to extend the zone, which means people really do speed here.

    What to do

When you see the 30 sign, get down to 30 before the first speed bump, not on it. Children come out between parked cars; keep your foot over the brake until the 50 sign. The traffic lights at NHH are further on: lane by the arrows in good time.

  19. 19. Traffic lights and the E39 on-ramp at NHH

    Helleveien × Øyjordsveien (Handelshøyskolen)

    Why to watch out here

At NHH there are two sets of lights in a row, a kollektivfelt on Helleveien (508.2) and a no-left-turn on the ramp. The acceleration lane onto the E39 is short and leads straight into a tunnel: you join through the Eidsvågtunnelen bore at 80. Forum 2006 and routes 2026: "på motorveien igjen ved NHH", "Følg skilt mot SENTRUM ved NHH".

    What to do

On Helleveien lane by the arrows, stay out of the bus lane. On the on-ramp: indicator, accelerate to 70, gap in the mirror and over the shoulder, merge before the lane ends. In the tunnel: lights on, keep your distance, 80.

  20. 20. Merge before the bridge and no overtaking

    Nordhordlandsbrua (E39, 70)

    Why to watch out here

The Nordhordaland/Knarvik route: "Følg skilting HOLSNØY (Gi tilsigelse på Nordhordalandsbroen)". Before the bridge a "merge_to_left" from a short arm, then 1.6 km of bridge with no chance to overtake (sign 334) and a crosswind over Salhusfjorden. Forum 2015: one of the routes goes to Frekhaug/Holsnøy, and one candidate there was failed for driving into the "busslomme" (bus bay) by the Esso at Mjåtveitflaten.

    What to do

On the arm accelerate to 70 and merge before the lane ends. On the bridge hold your lane and your distance, a steady 70, no overtaking. After the bridge listen for instructions: "Holsnøy / Ådland" are exits to the right, don't confuse them with bus bays.

  21. 21. Signalised T-junctions and a bus lane on the E39

Hylkje (Steinestøvegen × Nordre Brurås / Haukåsvegen)

    Why to watch out here

The motorway turns into a street: 60, traffic lights, left-turn lanes on the left, bus lanes (508.1) and merges on the right. Between the lights the markings are "left|through|through" over three lanes, where the right one is the bus lane. Mistakes: driving in the bus lane "because it's empty", not getting into the left-turn lane towards Hylkje in good time.

    What to do

After the tunnel keep to the middle/left ordinary lane, stay out of the right one (508.1). "Hylkje/Breistein": left lane with the arrow, stop at the line on red, give way to oncoming traffic on green. Turn round only where the examiner says (a car park or open area), never on the E39.

  22. 22. End of Heiane: out onto Åsamyrane

    Heiane × Åsamyrane (Fv578)

    Why to watch out here

A give-way sign before Åsamyrane (fylkesvei 578, forkjørsveg, 50). Traffic is dense from both sides and there's a zebra crossing on the left. Pulling out in front of a car or missing a pedestrian on the crossing is a fail within the first two minutes.

    What to do

Listen to what the examiner said: "Sentrum / E39 / Liamyrane" means right, "Flaktveit / Vågsbotn / Oslo" means left. Stop at the line, let everyone on Åsamyrane and the pedestrians go first, indicate in good time.

  23. 23. Two roundabouts in a row

Liamyrane (by Uno-X and Gullgruven senter)

    Why to watch out here

Small single-lane roundabouts with lots of exits into shop car parks and the petrol station. The examiner says "second exit", candidates count the car park entrances and take the wrong one, or forget to signal.

    What to do

Count the exits round the circle, including the ones to the shops. Right indicator before your exit. Walking pace: there are zebra crossings on every arm and people walking to Gullgruven senter.

  24. 24. The reversing task

    Blindheimsvegen × Hetlebakkvegen (Blindheim)

    Why to watch out here

The Arna route names this spot outright: "Ryggeoppgave i krysset Blindheimsvegen-Hetlebakkvegen". A junction by a bus stop, uphill, rural verges. Mistakes: reversing without turning your head, too fast, not stopping when a pedestrian or car appears.

    What to do

Stop just past the junction, indicator, check your mirrors and the view behind over your shoulder. Reverse slowly, at a crawl, looking back and to the sides the whole time; if anyone appears, stop. Don't go out onto the oncoming lane of Blindheimsvegen more than you need to.
