1. Roundabout on a 70 road
Strandveien × Jensvollveien (Fv282)
Why to watch out here
Cars on Strandveien approach the roundabout at 70: the candidate pulls in in front of them or waits too long; after exiting they fail to get up to 70, or exceed it.
What to do
Judge the speed of the cars from the left in good time and drive into a clear gap with confidence; after the roundabout accelerate smoothly to 70 and check the speedometer.
-
2. Joining E18 towards Oslo
Brakerøyakrysset (påkjøring)
Why to watch out here
The acceleration lane is short: candidates only get up to 60–70, do not check the blind spot, and either stop at the end of the lane or squeeze in in front of a car.
What to do
Accelerate almost to the speed of the traffic, signal left early, mirror + shoulder check, find a gap and merge before the lane ends.
-
3. Large roundabout Amtmannsvingen
Strandveien × E134 Ringeriksveien/Røykenveien
Why to watch out here
Two-lane entry from 70: candidates choose the wrong lane (for Kjellstad via Ringeriksveien you need the left lane), change lanes inside the roundabout and do not check the right-hand side when exiting from the inner lane.
What to do
Slow down from 70 in good time, choose your lane before the roundabout following the direction signs (towards Kjellstad/Hønefoss — left), do not change lanes in the roundabout, and before exiting: right mirror and shoulder check.
-
4. Joining E18 towards Oslo
Kjellstadkrysset (påkjøring nord)
Why to watch out here
A short acceleration onto the 100 road right after the slow roundabout: candidates merge at 60, do not check the blind spot, or brake at the end of the lane.
What to do
Accelerate firmly straight away from the ramp, look in the left mirror and over your shoulder already in the acceleration lane, and merge at the speed of the traffic before the lane ends.
-
5. Joining E18 towards Drammen
Kjellstadkrysset (påkjøring sør)
Why to watch out here
On E18 towards Drammen there is dense traffic and queues from Kjellstad: candidates do not adjust their speed, merge without a gap, and change lanes late for the Brakerøya exit.
What to do
Adjust your speed to the traffic (in a queue: to the queue), keep a 3-second gap and move early into the right lane for the Brakerøya exit.
-
6. Two-lane roundabout Brakerøya
exit from E18 → Bragernestunnelen
Why to watch out here
A multi-lane, overloaded roundabout by the new hospital: candidates choose the wrong lane, change lanes inside the roundabout and fail to give way when exiting from the inner lane.
What to do
For Bragernestunnelen (first exit to the right) take the right lane already on the ramp, give way to the roundabout, stay in your lane and switch on the right indicator straight away.
-
7. Høyreregel (priority to the right) uphill
Bergstien × Gjetergata (Fv2724)
Why to watch out here
Bergstien looks like the main road, but there is no «Forkjørsveg» sign — there is a «Farlig vegkryss» (124) sign: Gjetergata from the right has priority; in addition there is a gradient of about 8 % and a kindergarten nearby.
What to do
At sign 124 reduce your speed, look right into Gjetergata and be ready to stop; pull away on the hill without rolling back, and watch for children.
-
8. Giving way on a hill
Løkkebergveien → Nøsteveien (Fv2704)
Why to watch out here
Stopping before a main road on a hill: in a manual car they roll back or stall, in an automatic they «creep» onto the main road without a gap; right by the line there is a gangfelt and a bus stop.
What to do
Stop before the gangfelt and the line, hold the car with the brake/handbrake, look both ways along Nøsteveien and at the gangfelt, and pull away smoothly without rolling back.
-
9. Leaving the station
utkjøring til Jensvollveien
Why to watch out here
The first seconds of the test: out of nerves, candidates roll out onto Jensvollveien without giving way to a car or a pedestrian on the pavement.
What to do
Stop at the edge before pulling out, look left-right-left and at the pavement; pull out only when you are not obstructing anyone, and signal straight away.
-
10. Mini roundabout by the station
Jensvollveien × Lierstranda
Why to watch out here
The roundabout is tiny (about 26 m) and comes right after the start: candidates fail to give way to those already in the roundabout, forget to signal their exit, or turn onto Lierstranda, which is closed to motor vehicles (sign 306.1).
What to do
Slow down in good time, give way to traffic in the roundabout, use the right indicator when exiting towards Strandveien; do not turn onto Lierstranda.
-
11. Bus lane towards Brakerøya
Strandveien / Nedre Strandgate (Fv282)
Why to watch out here
The right lane here is a kollektivfelt (bus lane) for buses and taxis; out of the habit of keeping right, candidates drive into it.
What to do
Read sign 508.2 and the text «BUSS» on the tarmac in good time, and stay in the left, general lane.
-
12. From 70 to 40, and buses
Ringeriksveien at Vitbank (E134)
Why to watch out here
After 70 on Strandveien, 40 feels like «crawling» — candidates keep 50+; at the Vitbank stop they do not let the departing bus out.
What to do
Check the speedometer right after the roundabout — it is 40 here; if the bus at Vitbank is signalling to pull out, let it go.
-
13. Roundabout Kjellstad
E134 Ringeriksveien × Sankt Hallvards vei
Why to watch out here
Cars from E18 and lorries meet here: candidates fail to give way to the roundabout, miss the exit to Sankt Hallvards vei towards E18, and end up stopped on the gangfelt (pedestrian crossing) in the queue.
What to do
Read the «E18 Oslo» sign before the roundabout, give way to the roundabout, exit onto Sankt Hallvards vei with the right indicator on, and do not stop on a gangfelt.
-
14. Roundabout inside the mountain
Bragernestunnelen (Fv283)
Why to watch out here
In the tunnel candidates lose their sense of speed and approach the underground roundabout at 70; when exiting towards Øvre Sund they do not signal or fail to give way to cars from Hamborgstrømtunnelen.
What to do
Slow to 50 at the sign in the tunnel, keep your distance, give way in the roundabout; right indicator when exiting towards Øvre Sund.
-
15. Roundabout by the bridge
Øvre Sund (Lajordgata × Øvre Storgate × Øvre Sund bru)
Why to watch out here
Right after the tunnel comes a roundabout with gangfelt and cyclists: candidates do not give way to pedestrians at the exit and mix up the lanes to the bridge.
What to do
Drive down slowly, give way to the roundabout on entry; at the exit watch for the gangfelt — if a pedestrian is on it or heading towards it, stop.
-
16. School and raised pedestrian crossings
Løkkebergveien at Bragernes skole
Why to watch out here
After 40, candidates do not notice the 30 sign, take the raised gangfelt too fast and do not stop for schoolchildren at the crossing.
What to do
At the 30 sign slow down immediately, over the raised gangfelt almost at walking pace, and watch for children between the cars.
-
17. Roundabout Nøsteveien × Jensvollveien (Fv2704)
Why to watch out here
From 60 towards a roundabout with gangfelt on every arm: they brake late, forget the right indicator for the first exit and do not let pedestrians cross at the exit.
What to do
Slow down in good time, give way to the roundabout, right indicator already before entering (first exit), and let pedestrians cross at the exit.
-
18. 30 at the school before the finish
Jensvollveien at Høvik skole
Why to watch out here
The end of the test, candidates relax: they hold 40–50 where the limit is 30, by the school and the bus stops, and do not see children and cyclists.
What to do
The test lasts all the way to parking — keep to 30, watch the pavements and the exits from the schoolyard, and signal in good time before the station.
