All 19, explained.

  1. 1. The Forusbeen roundabout by the station: two lanes, 60 and the Sola/Stavanger border

    Traktorveien × Forusbeen (Fv4526) × Åsenvegen

    Why to watch out here

The first roundabout after the start, 600 m from the station. Forusbeen is two-lane on both sides and five arms leave the roundabout (Forusbeen ×2, Åsenvegen, Traktorveien, the industrial estate). Entering in the wrong lane, or exiting into the left lane of Forusbeen and then changing lanes without a mirror check, is a typical fault; at and right after the roundabout there are zebra crossings and cycle paths. The municipal border is here too: westbound on Forusbeen the limit is 60.

    What to do

Slow down early, look left into the roundabout and at the zebra. Enter with the indicator as the rules say: right (Forusbeen to Sola) – right lane; east to the E39 – follow the lane arrows. Exit into the right lane, change lanes only after mirror and shoulder check.

  2. 2. Two roundabouts at the E39 (Forus Nord): the right lane on Forusbeen

Forusbeen × E39 (Forusbeen motorway junction)

    Why to watch out here

«The insanely big roundabout (Forus Nord)», as one candidate put it on a forum. Two two-lane roundabouts in a row with a short stretch between them where the lanes lead either onto the E39 or on along Forusbeen. Whoever sits in the left lane «just in case» ends up on the wrong exit or cuts across someone's lane; on the way back (from the E39 to the station) the lanes of Forusbeen merge into one after the eastern roundabout. There is also an accident cluster on the E39 at the exit (rear-end collisions).

    What to do

Decide your lane before the first roundabout: for the E39 towards Stavanger – by the arrows on the road; onward along Forusbeen – keep your lane through both roundabouts and do not change lanes between them without need. Indicate right before each exit. After the second roundabout watch the lanes merge.

  3. 3. The Diagonalen × E39 roundabout (Jåttå): 40, two lanes and an accident cluster

    Diagonalen (Fv44) × E39 × Nesbuveien (Fv510)

    Why to watch out here

The most accident-prone roundabout in the station's area: 5 accidents 2018–2022 «of unclear course with crossing directions», in other words someone entered without giving way. Two lanes, E39 ramps and the Bussveien next door; the 40 before the roundabout is deceptive – it looks as if you can just roll on. This is the way back on the route «E39 towards Stavanger centre».

    What to do

Take the 40 seriously. Lane by the arrows: one lane for the E39, another for straight on along Nesbuveien. Look left at both lanes of the roundabout, not just the near one. Indicate right before the exit.

  4. 4. Five-arm two-lane roundabout at the E39 (Lura)

    E39 × Stavangerveien (Fv44) × Stokkaveien × Somaveien

    Why to watch out here

The biggest roundabout on the way to Sandnes: 5 exits, 2 lanes, motorway ramps. Miscounting the exits and leaving at the wrong one, or ending up in the left lane at the exit, is typical. Stavangerveien beyond it is the forum route «Lura, Gandal, Oalsgata».

    What to do

Pick your exit and lane from the signs before the roundabout: 1st–2nd exit – right lane, the later ones – left lane with a mirror-checked move right before the exit. Count the exits aloud. Indicate right before yours.

  5. 5. Start: leaving the station onto Christian August Thorings veg

    Stavanger trafikkstasjon (Forus)

    Why to watch out here

The first metres of the test: leaving a property onto a priority road where cars do 50 and a cycle path runs along the kerb. Rolling out without giving way to a car or cyclist, or mistaking the entrance for the exit (sign 302 «No entry» faces inwards), is a fault before the route has begun. Where you park before the start is not described in public sources; listen to the examiner.

    What to do

Before the start adjust mirrors and seat and find the exit with your eyes. At the exit stop at the edge, look left–right–left and at the cycle path, pull out smoothly. Hold 50 along the street and be ready for the roundabout 500 m on.

  6. 6. Joining the E39 towards Stavanger: acceleration lane and 90

Forusbeen → E39 north (Forus Nord)

    Why to watch out here

The most common bit of motorway on the test: «You will drive on the motorway in the acceleration and deceleration lanes». Joining at 60, stopping at the end of the acceleration lane or squeezing in ahead of a lorry is a dangerous fault. Traffic from the south is dense, and the accident cluster next to it is rear-end collisions.

    What to do

In the acceleration lane: throttle up to the speed of the traffic (90), mirror, shoulder check, indicate left, smoothly into the gap. Do not brake at the end of the lane. On the E39 keep the right lane and a 3-second gap.

  7. 7. The Forus vest roundabout: Solasplitten (Rv509) × E39

    Solasplitten × E39 × Lagerveien (Forus vest)

    Why to watch out here

A roundabout that is a motorway junction: three kinds of arm at once – E39 ramps (Stavanger/Sandnes), Solasplitten west and the local road of the industrial estate. From the roundabout onto Solasplitten you enter an 80 zone: failing to get up to speed and crawling at 50 is a fault; the wrong E39 ramp and you are heading somewhere else. Forum route: «I got to drive out along Solasplitten towards Ølberg».

    What to do

Read the signs before the roundabout: $509$ Sola – west, E39 – via the ramps. Give way to those in the roundabout, indicate right before the exit. On Solasplitten smoothly up to 80, then the merge into one lane (sign 530) and the tunnel.

  8. 8. The Åsnut tunnel on Solasplitten (80)

    Rv509 Solasplitten, Røyneberg → Sola

    Why to watch out here

The only tunnel in the station's area, and it lies on the forum route «out along Solasplitten towards Ølberg». In the tunnel at 80: dipped headlights not on (without automatic lights), slowing to 60 «just in case», hugging the wall – all earn remarks. Before the tunnel comes a merge and the Røyneberg exit, after it daylight and the Sola roundabouts.

    What to do

Before entering: lights on, sunglasses off, 80 and a gap. In the tunnel keep the lane centred, do not brake for no reason. At the exit your eyes adjust – do not accelerate, watch the signs.

  9. 9. Exit from Solasplitten: two roundabouts and a «dangerous junction»

    Røynebergvegen × Rv509 (Røyneberg, Sola)

    Why to watch out here

Two mini-roundabouts 60 m apart with one-way ramps between them. Easy to miss the second roundabout and drive «straight on», or to enter a ramp against the flow (sign 302). Leaving an 80 zone: speed must come down before the roundabout.

    What to do

On the exit brake early to 30–40; first roundabout – give way, second – give way again and indicate again. Watch the 302 signs: onto the Rv509 ramps only as the arrow shows. Røynebergvegen then leads into the Røyneberg residential area.

  10. 10. Priority to the right in residential Godeset

    Glassbegerveien × Leirkarveien (Godeset/Gausel)

    Why to watch out here

A classic «priority to the right» area next to Forus: neither 202 nor 206 at the junctions, so the right-hand rule applies. Candidates drive as if on a priority road without slowing at side streets on the right; parked cars block the view. Driving schools name Forus and the residential areas around it among their stage 3 areas.

    What to do

In the residential zone 30–40 and a look into every street on the right – slow down, be ready to stop. If someone is coming out from the right, give way. Children and bikes between the cars are one more reason to go slowly.

  11. 11. Mini-roundabouts by the station

Lagerveien × Fabrikkveien / Kontorveien (Forus vest)

    Why to watch out here

Small roundabouts with a painted island: some drive straight through them like an ordinary junction, with no give-way and no indicator. Signs 202 + 406 stand on every arm – these are full roundabouts. Between them, company exits and trucks.

    What to do

Before each mini-roundabout down to 20–30, look left, give way, pass the island on the right (not over it), indicate right on exit. Watch for lorries cutting across the island.

  12. 12. Traffic lights on the Bussveien: Boganesveien × Gauselvågen

    Gausel (Fv44)

    Why to watch out here

One of the few sets of lights near the station. Lane arrows before the junction – lining up in the left «left only» lane and going straight is a fault; «stale green» (Merlin about Oalsgata) – driving through on amber when you could have stopped. The Bussveien works next door: markings and lanes may have changed.

    What to do

Read the arrows on the road early and take your lane. A green that has been green a long time – be ready to stop on amber. The crossing beyond the lights – look right when turning.

  13. 13. The roundabout at Kvadrat: zebra crossings and the right turn

    Forussletta (Fv44) × Luramyrveien (Lura)

    Why to watch out here

Three accidents 2016–2023 right on the roundabout: a right turn in front of a following vehicle and a pedestrian hit on the zebra. The exit towards Kvadrat – streams of pedestrians with trolleys and bikes from the Bussveien; candidates watch the cars in the roundabout and forget the zebra on the exit. Kvadrat is a driving-school meeting point and the place for the parking task.

    What to do

Before entering – look left and at the entry zebra; on exit – indicate and look right at the zebra: if a pedestrian is already on it or stepping towards it, stop. Lane by the arrows; for Kvadrat – the right lane.

  14. 14. Forus sør: the Løwenstrasse roundabouts and joining the E39 with two acceleration lanes

    Løwenstrasse (Fv4532) × E39

    Why to watch out here

Two roundabouts in a row (as at Forusbeen), but here the E39 on-ramp has two acceleration lanes that merge into one at the join. Candidates merge from the left acceleration lane or fail to notice another car accelerating on their right.

    What to do

On the ramp: right acceleration lane, throttle to 90, mirror–shoulder–indicator, merge. If the left acceleration lane is occupied, let it merge first, zip style. Do not stop.

  15. 15. Solakrossen: the priority road changes, zebras and pedestrians

Solakrossvegen × Sentrumsvegen (Fv510), Sola centre

    Why to watch out here

Sola centre is a mix of priority and side streets: Solakrossvegen has priority, but at Sentrumsvegen there is a 202. Three accidents 2016–2023 with pedestrians and rear-end collisions. Stavanger driving schools call Sola a stage 3 area – routes here via Solasplitten are real.

    What to do

Read every sign: 206 – you have priority, 202 – give way. Before the zebras 30–40 and a look at the pavements. On Sentrumsvegen beyond the centre 60, but only after the sign.

  16. 16. Sande school: 30 zone and 40 on Stemvegen

Sande skole, Stemvegen × Kjelsberg ring (Sola)

    Why to watch out here

A school zone 2 km west of the station along Forusbeen. Signs 366 «Speed limit zone» at the entry to the area and 362.40 on Kjelsberg ring: entering at 50 from the 60 zone of Forusbeen without slowing is a serious fault; children at the school and kindergartens, bikes.

    What to do

From the zone sign 30/40 at once, foot near the brake, eyes on pavements and gates. By the school be ready to stop. Out of the zone only after sign 368.

  17. 17. Speed bumps and 40 on Godesetdalen

    Godesetdalen (Fv4538) from Forusbeen

    Why to watch out here

After 50–60 on Forusbeen, a narrow street with 40 and bumps. Taking a bump at 40 or missing the sign earns a remark; a bus pulling out of a bay must be let out where the limit is 60 or lower (§ 7 nr. 5). The side streets from the 30 zones carry sign 202 – here you are on the priority road.

    What to do

From the roundabout 40 straight away, 20–25 before each bump without harsh braking. Bus indicating in a ≤ 60 zone – give way (§ 7 nr. 5). Side streets with sign 202 – your priority, but watch for children.

  18. 18. End of the station street: give way to Lagervegen and the Røynebergsletta roundabout

Christian August Thorings veg × Lagervegen × Røynebergsletta

    Why to watch out here

The station street is a priority road, but at its end stands a 202: candidates carry on as if they still had priority. Right after it comes a roundabout with bus bays along Røynebergsletta: a bus indicating in a 50 zone has priority.

    What to do

At the end of the street a stop-look left–right, give way to Lagervegen. At the roundabout give way, indicate. A bus pulling out of the bay – let it out.

  19. 19. Task: parking at Kvadrat

    Stokkaveien by Kvadrat (Lura, Sandnes)

    Why to watch out here

On the forum «he parked at Kvadrat» – parking at the shopping centre as a task. A big car park with pedestrians, trolleys and cars reversing. Reversing without mirrors and a head turn, taking two spaces, pulling out without looking – faults in the task.

    What to do

Pick a space with room to spare, indicate, check mirrors and shoulder, reverse slowly with your head turned, stop squarely between the lines. On the way out – mirrors, shoulder again, give way to everyone.
